A good life is one that has a balance of those four elements and gardening can help provide that balance.
1) Physical >>> By digging a garden - our brains take a rest. The body needs a good work out and gardening provides a life long pursuit. Good robust physical health is a big factor in good mental health.
2) Emotional >>> The garden brings us into contact with others. Neighbours, friends and relatives. A garden or plant that is shared with loved ones is a great emotional input.
Boredom, freedom, happiness and sadness can bubble to the surface and be given time and space.
In the process of creating and working in a garden our own self esteem is raised - a job well done is good for us!
3) Spiritual >>> Being in touch with the soil - is a spiritual experience. It can leave the mind quiet - and able to rest. At times like that we are able to hear more of the inner side of ourselves. To allow God to speak - comfort, ideas & inspiration.
4) Mental >>> In the act of not focusing on our mental problems, by engaging with the garden our minds can focus on growing and doing something positive. Over time this can lift the mind out of negative patterns.
